Why this setup

You run a registered business buying new overstock and end-of-line pallets of homeware gadgets, phone accessories and beauty tools, selling 80 to 250 orders a week in TikTok Shop lives and as eBay listings from a double garage.

A pallet of new overstock arrives as one delivery of three hundred units. Clear floor space for the pallet and a pallet truck path to the door before you put up any shelving.

TikTok Shop sells this stock in bursts. One live demo of a gadget can clear forty units in an hour, and each order has to leave inside the dispatch window, so you set the packing line up for spikes. Between shows, the same lines sell slowly at full price on eBay.

How to lay it out

Where everything goes, so each order moves one way through the room.

  1. 1

    Pallet bay inside the door

Keep a clear square of floor by the garage door for the incoming pallet, wide enough to strip the wrap and count the cartons, with nothing else stored on it.

  2. 2

Four shelving units as the stockroom

Shelving runs along both side walls, with a code on each shelf. Unopened cartons go on the bottom, opened stock in tubs above, with a small SKU label on each tub.

  3. 3

    Two-table packing line

Use one table for picking and bagging and the other for weighing, labelling and sealing. A tape gun at each table lets two people pack after a big live.

  4. 4

    Live corner at the back

The tripod, LED panels and clip mic stay set up against the back wall with a plain board behind. Demo stock sits on a shelf within arm's reach.

The guide

Each step in the order you'll need it.

01

Taking delivery of a pallet

Book a delivery with a tail lift unless you have a forklift, and ask whether the driver brings a pallet truck. Check the wrap for damage and photograph it before you sign.

Strip it in the pallet bay and count cartons against the manifest. Note shortfalls and damage the same day and send photos to the supplier.

02

Coding stock so two platforms share it

Give every line a SKU and print a small label for its tub and shelf. The same code goes in the TikTok Shop and eBay listings so pickers can find it from either label.

Count units into stock when you shelve them and reconcile weekly. If a line sells out in a live and stays up on eBay, you end up cancelling an order.

03

Planning a TikTok Shop live

Pick three to five lines per live and test each one on camera beforehand. A gadget that fails on camera loses you more than one sale.

Pull demo units from a separate shelf and keep stock counts in front of you. Stop selling a line when the count hits zero.

05

Choosing carriers for volume

At 80 orders a week or more, a daily collection saves the post office trip. Compare Royal Mail and a courier on your typical parcel weight, with Evri as the cheaper option for light mailers.

Keep a list of each day's tracking numbers. TikTok Shop and eBay both measure late dispatch, and a list settles any query fast.

06

Records for each pallet

Keep a sheet per pallet: cost, delivery, units, units sold, units scrapped and money in. Read the sheets to decide which suppliers get a repeat order.

Report profit on your Self Assessment or company accounts, and keep invoices for every pallet. Both platforms report seller data to HMRC past their thresholds.

Common mistakes

Each one costs you money or reviews, and each has a fix.

  • Ordering a pallet before clearing floor space for it, then shelving half of it in the house.
  • Running a live without checking the stock count and overselling a line by twenty units.
  • Selling a line with no UK or EU maker or importer details and no instructions.
  • Packing the post-live spike alone over three evenings and missing dispatch windows.
  • Tracking pallet profit by bank balance instead of a sheet per pallet.

When to upgrade

At 150 orders a week an inventory app keeps unit counts across TikTok Shop and eBay so a line sells out on both at once. At 200, shipping software pulls both platforms' orders into one screen and prints in shelf order.

Questions

Can I sell returns pallets on TikTok Shop?

TikTok Shop UK runs second-hand selling by invitation, so this setup sticks to new overstock and end-of-line stock. Keep used or returned items for eBay, with every fault in the description.

How do I check a pallet before I buy?

Ask for the manifest, then price five sample lines against sold listings. Knock off fees, postage and a share for damaged units. Pass on any pallet that only makes a profit at full price.

What safety duties come with selling new goods?

As a trader you must sell safe products and give buyers the information they need. Check each line for a UK or EU maker or importer address, markings and instructions, and leave out lines with none.

How do I handle a big spike after a live?

Plan the pack for the next morning. Print every label in one batch, pick by shelf code into crates and have two people on the line. TikTok Shop sets a dispatch window, so check your account's current rule.

Do I need different packaging for TikTok Shop?

The same grey mailers and small boxes work on both platforms. Keep a demo stock shelf separate so a unit opened on camera goes out as a described open box or not at all.

Should I list every line on eBay too?

List lines with steady search demand on eBay and keep impulse gadgets for lives. A phone stand sells either way, while a novelty item needs a demo.

How do I spot counterfeit lines in a pallet?

Watch for brand names at a fraction of trade price, missing barcodes, poor print and spelling errors on packaging. Pull them out before listing. Both platforms close accounts that sell fakes.
