Why this setup
You resell trainers on eBay and Vinted from a small room, hold 30 to 60 pairs and ship up to 30 a week.
Buyers grade the box as well as the shoes, and some eBay orders go through authentication. You need clear photos from every angle and packing that keeps the shoe box free of dents.
Two steel shelving units hold about 60 boxed pairs. You ship each pair wrapped in a double-wall outer box, with the label on the outer box only.
The kit
Every item, why it’s here and what it typically costs in the UK.
Phomemo thermal label printer
Costs less than most thermal printers and fits on a shelf. It prints the same 100 x 150 mm labels, so your label stock carries over if you upgrade later.
Typical price£70 to £110
See on Amazon40 kg digital parcel scale
A wrong weight costs you surcharges or overpaid postage. A flat platform scale with a separate display stays readable when a box covers the top.
Typical price£15 to £25

Once you ship more than a handful of boxes a week, a tape gun saves minutes on every session and stops tape ends sticking to themselves.
Typical price£8 to £14
See on Amazon40 cm photo light box
Consistent white-background photos make your listings look like a shop. The box folds flat when you need the desk back.
Typical price£25 to £40

Floor space runs out before height does. Number the shelves and each item gets an address you can pick from.
Typical price£80 to £140

Clothing and trainer shows need a full-body or full-shoe shot from in front. A tripod gets the phone to eye height and the remote starts recording from across the room.
Typical price£18 to £30

How to lay it out
Where everything goes, so each order moves one way through the room.
- 1
Shelving with bay codes
Number each shelf and stack boxes no more than five high so the bottom box doesn’t crush. Put the code in the listing.
- 2
Photo spot with the light box
Shoot every pair from the same set of angles: both sides, sole, heel, tongue label and box label. Authenticators ask for the same angles, so one set of photos serves both.
- 3
Packing on the floor or a table
Wrap the shoe box, drop it in the outer box, fill the gaps and tape the seams, then weigh it and print the label.
- 4
Outer boxes ready
Keep five outer boxes made up and taped at the base.
The guide
Each step in the order you'll need it.
Photographing a pair
Put the shoes in the light box and shoot both sides, front, heel, sole, insole and size tag. Then shoot the box with the label showing.
Shoot every flaw close up, such as creasing and yellowing on the sole. Buyers compare your photos with what arrives, so clear flaw shots give you proof if a buyer disputes the condition.

Storing 60 boxed pairs
Put the size and a stock number on a label at the box end.
Keep the shelving out of direct sunlight, which yellows soles and fades boxes. Fit blinds on the window of a small room.
Kit for this step
Packing a pair
Stuff the shoes with paper so the toe box holds its shape, close the shoe box, wrap it in bubble wrap and put it in a double-wall outer box with padding on all sides.
Stick the label on the outer box only. If you tape the shoe box, you tear the cardboard and lower its value to the next buyer.
Weigh the finished parcel. Boxed trainers are heavy and bulky, so check the carrier's current size and weight guide before choosing a service.
Authentication routes
Some eBay sales go through eBay's authentication service before reaching the buyer. Check the order details: you send these pairs to the authenticator, and eBay sets the label up for that.
Pack for authentication the same way you pack for a buyer. The authenticator checks the box condition as well.
Keeping boxes and wrap stocked
Order double-wall boxes in a size that fits a men's UK 11 shoe box with room for wrap. One size covers most pairs, so you reorder a single item.
At 30 pairs a week, a roll of bubble wrap lasts a few weeks. Count boxes every weekend and reorder when ten are left.
Kit for this step
Growing past 30 pairs a week
Past 30 pairs a week, you run out of shelf space first. A third shelving unit fits in most small rooms; give boxes for sold pairs their own space by the door.
At 40 pairs a week, add a faster label printer and fanfold labels. Past 100 pairs in stock, a garage or unit makes more sense than a bedroom.
Common mistakes
Each one costs you money or reviews, and each has a fix.
- Sticking the postage label on the shoe box, which lowers its value to a collector.
- Sending a shoe box with no outer box, so it arrives crushed at the corners.
- Stacking boxes too high on the shelf, which dents the bottom box.
- Skipping close-up flaw photos and getting a not-as-described return.
- Missing the authentication address on an eBay order and sending the pair straight to the buyer.
When to upgrade
Add two LED panels at about 30 pairs a week for sharper close-ups of materials. At 40 a week, a faster printer with fanfold labels cuts the running cost.
- 40+ MUNBYN thermal label printer
- 30+ Two LED video panels with stands
Questions
Can I post trainers in their original box?
Use an outer box. A label or a dent on the original box lowers the pair’s value to the buyer.
How many pairs fit on one shelving unit?
Measure your biggest box and check the shelf depth and tier height on the unit’s spec sheet, then count how many boxes fit per tier before you buy.
Do I need a light box for trainers?
Shoot every pair in the light box so the lighting and background match across your listings. Larger pairs may need a bigger box or a plain wall with the tripod.
How do I post a pair going through eBay authentication?
Follow the label and address eBay gives on the order. Pack it the same way you would for a buyer, in an outer box.
Should I keep the original shoe box?
Yes. A pair without its box often sells for less.
Where should I store trainers to stop yellowing?
Keep them in a cool, dry room out of direct sunlight.
