Labubu, Sonny Angels, Pokémon cards and trainers: read demand from live viewer counts, check stock before you buy, and stay on the right side of UK law.

Before you start
Labubu, Sonny Angels, Pokémon cards and trainers: read demand from live viewer counts, check stock before you buy, and stay on the right side of UK law.
Hyped stock sells fast and attracts copies. Labubu figures, Sonny Angels, Pokémon cards and limited trainers all have counterfeits good enough to fool a quick glance, and a fake that reaches a buyer costs you the sale, the account and possibly a visit from Trading Standards.
Read demand before you buy, check each item before you list it, and keep the photos as evidence.
Kit for this
The products this guide uses, with typical UK prices.
500 g precision pocket scale
Card orders often sit within a few grams of a Royal Mail weight limit. A precise small scale tells you whether a mailer goes as a Large Letter or a parcel.
Typical price£8 to £14

Your phone stays the camera and gains close focus for centring, surface scratches, hallmarks and fabric labels. Before a show, make sure the clip fits over your phone case and camera bump, and add light, because macro shots lose brightness.
Typical price£10 to £40
See on Amazon40 cm photo light box
Consistent white-background photos make your listings look like a shop. The box folds flat when you need the desk back.
Typical price£25 to £40

Read demand from live viewers
Whatnot's UK browse page shows how many people watch each category live. On 6 October 2026 at about 1am UK time, our capture showed 946 live viewers in Labubu and blind boxes, 725 in Sonny Angels and Smiskis, 2,900 in slime and squishy toys and 1,900 in LEGO. Trading card games had 26,200.
The evening before, at 6:30pm, slime had 2,400 and LEGO 2,100. Those are live viewers at capture time, two snapshots only. Watch the same rows over a few weeks before you spend on stock: a category whose viewers fall while prices on sold listings drop is a craze cooling.
Labubu and Pop Mart blind boxes
The Chartered Trading Standards Institute warned in 2025 that fake Labubu dolls were flooding the UK, and councils seized thousands. The fakes had loose eyes, hands and feet that could choke a child, and lacked UKCA or CE marks and importer details.
Collectors check the QR code on the box leads to Pop Mart's own site rather than a lookalike page, and report a mark on the foot that shows under UV light. Compare print sharpness, colours and the sealed foil against a box from an official Pop Mart shop. Treat a price far below other sold listings as the clearest warning.
Pokémon cards
Fakes often have a lighter blue back, blurry text or a glossy surface where the real card is textured. Hold the card to a phone torch: genuine cards have a dark inner layer, and many fakes let more light through.
Weigh a card you pulled from a sealed pack on a 0.1 g pocket scale and compare suspect cards with it. Sealed booster boxes and tins can be resealed, so check the wrap on a known good box. A clip-on macro lens shows the print pattern; photograph it for your listing.
Sonny Angels and trainers
Sonny Angels sell blind in sealed boxes, so check the outer box print, the seal and the figure's paint against one from an official stockist. Ask sellers of rare figures for photos of the box and insert together.
For trainers, compare the box label with the size tag inside the shoe, stitching, the insole print and the smell of the glue. On eBay UK, eligible trainers and handbags from selected brands sold for £200 or more go to an authenticator before the buyer receives them. Trading cards from £250 can go through the same Authenticity Guarantee.
Kit for checking and proving
A 500 g pocket scale reading to 0.1 g catches thin card stock and light figures. A clip-on macro lens kit shows printing dots, stitching and tiny logo details your phone camera blurs.
A 40 cm light tent gives even light so colours match from one photo to the next. Photograph the item, the box codes and the scale reading before you list. Those photos answer an authenticity claim and show buyers you checked.
Platform rules on fakes
Vinted bans counterfeit items, removes listings and suspends accounts, and blocks repeat offenders for good. It may ask for proof on luxury items, such as receipts, tags or codes. If a buyer shows strong evidence an item is fake, Vinted cancels the order and refunds the buyer.
eBay's Authenticity Guarantee covers selected trainers, handbags, watches, jewellery and trading cards above set prices. Below those, you carry the counterfeit risk. Whatnot has its own counterfeit rules: read them in its help centre before a show.
UK law on selling fakes
Selling goods with a fake trade mark to make money is a criminal offence under section 92 of the Trade Marks Act 1994. The maximum is ten years in prison and an unlimited fine, and local Trading Standards enforce it.
Fake toys can also break the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. If you find you bought fakes, don't sell them. Report the seller to the platform, ask for a refund through its process and tell Trading Standards through Citizens Advice.

Questions
Is it illegal to sell a fake Labubu if I didn't know?
Section 92 of the Trade Marks Act has a defence if you believed on reasonable grounds the goods were genuine. Checks and photos help show that. Once you know, stop selling and report it.
Can a pocket scale spot fake Pokémon cards?
It helps. Compare against a card from a sealed pack you opened yourself. Weight is one test alongside the light test and print detail.
Does eBay authenticate trading cards in the UK?
Yes, through Authenticity Guarantee for eligible graded and ungraded cards from £250. Check the current list on eBay before you price.
What does Vinted do if a buyer says my item is fake?
Vinted investigates with photos from the buyer. If there is strong evidence, it cancels the order and refunds the buyer, and counterfeit listings get the account suspended.
How do I know a craze is ending?
Watch live viewers in the category and sold prices over weeks. Falling viewers and more unsold listings mean buy less.
Are the viewer numbers on this page current?
No. They are live viewers at the time we captured Whatnot's browse page on 5 and 6 October 2026. Open the page yourself to see today's counts.
