The guide

Each step in the order you'll need it.

01

How a Cardmarket sale works

You find the card’s product page, add your copy with condition, language and price, and it appears in the list of offers. A buyer adds cards from you to their basket and pays Cardmarket.

You get a paid order, pack it, mark it as sent, and the money reaches your Cardmarket account once the buyer confirms arrival.

06

When the hobby becomes a business

Once you buy boxes or collections to resell, register as a business and move to a professional seller account, with duties such as invoices and the EU 14-day right of withdrawal.

Keep a sheet of what each box or collection cost and what its cards fetched, so your tax figures match what Cardmarket reports.

Common mistakes

Each one costs you money or reviews, and each has a fix.

  • If you grade a card higher than it is, you get returns and bad ratings. Pick the lower grade when unsure.
  • If you send a valuable order in an untracked letter and it goes missing, you have no protection.
  • Posting cards without a toploader or card saver lets them bend in the sorting machine.
  • Selling a card on another site and forgetting to remove it from Cardmarket forces a cancellation.
  • Ignoring the letter weight band means paying extra postage out of your own margin.

Selling on Cardmarket

Cardmarket lists every card in Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering and other games as one product page, and sellers add their copies with condition, language and price. Buyers fill a basket from one seller, pay Cardmarket first, and you post the cards in a letter or parcel.

Private sellers pay a 5% commission on the value of each card sold. Most orders are a few cards, so the work is finding, sleeving and posting small letters quickly, with a storage system that tells you where every card lives.

Questions

Straight answers to what sellers ask about this.

What does Cardmarket charge private sellers?

A 5% commission on the article value of each card sold, capped per article. Orders that go through the Trustee Service add a small fee of 0.5% to 1%, depending on the shipping method. Check Cardmarket’s fee table for the current figures.

What is the Trustee Service?

Cardmarket holds the payment until the buyer confirms the order arrived. It applies to orders above €25 and to a new seller’s first five sales, and it covers you in a dispute when you used a tracked method.

How do I post cards to buyers?

You choose which shipping methods you offer from Cardmarket’s list for your country, from a plain letter for a single cheap card to tracked post for valuable orders. The buyer picks one at checkout and pays the postage.

Can I sell to buyers in other countries?

Yes. Cardmarket covers most of Europe, and you can offer shipping to the countries you choose. Sending from the UK to the EU adds customs paperwork, so check Cardmarket’s help on shipping from the UK before you open those countries.

How do I grade card condition?

Use Cardmarket’s own scale, from Mint to Poor, and judge under bright light. Grading too high is the main cause of disputes, so pick the lower grade when in doubt.

When do I need a professional account?

Buying boosters or collections to flip singles makes you a trader and should register as a business and switch to a professional seller account. Cardmarket shares your figures with the tax authorities under DAC7 once a calendar year reaches 30 orders, or €2,000 in card sales.
