The guide

Each step in the order you'll need it.

01

The kit for figures

Box protectors are the first purchase if you sell boxed vinyl figures, because collectors grade the box as hard as the figure. Add double-wall boxes in a couple of sizes, paper or bubble wrap, and a parcel scale.

A light box is useful for loose figures. Boxed figures photograph better against a plain wall with two soft lights, since the window plastic picks up every reflection.

02

Packing a boxed figure

Wrap the protected figure and box it with padding on all six sides. The outer box should be big enough that a dent never reaches the window box.

Post a boxed collectible in a box with padding. Corner crush on the inner box is a common complaint in this category, and it happens in sorting machines.

03

Storing figures so boxes stay mint

Store boxed figures upright on shelving, away from a sunny window, because sunlight fades box art. Keep heavy boxes off light ones.

Label each shelf section and note the location in your listing notes. Loose figures with small accessories go in individual bags so parts stay together.

04

Photos collectors trust

Shoot all six sides of the box, plus close-ups of corners, the window and any creases. Photograph any flaw so buyers see it before they order.

For loose figures, show every accessory laid out and any paint rubs or loose joints. Use the same background every time so your shop looks consistent.

05

Selling figures live

Figures suit live shows on Whatnot and TikTok Shop, where you can turn the box in front of the camera. A phone on a tripod at chest height and two LED panels angled in from the sides cut glare on the window plastic.

Pull your stock and put it in order before you go live. Ship soon after the show: buyers in this category notice dispatch times.

06

Growing past the first 50 orders

Buy boxes in bulk in the sizes you use most and keep protectors stocked, so a missing item does not halt a batch.

Once you ship several boxes a day, add a thermal label printer and a postage tool that imports orders, and print every label in one batch. Keep a stock list with shelf locations so you can pick quickly.

Common mistakes

Each one costs you money or reviews, and each has a fix.

  • A padded envelope lets the box corners crush in transit. Use a box with padding all round.
  • If you hide box damage in photos, buyers send the figure back. Photograph every corner and crease and mention them in the description.
  • Sunlight fades box art within months on a windowsill. Keep shelves away from windows.
  • Loose accessories get mixed up between figures and you lose completeness, so bag each figure’s parts together.
  • Store boxes upright side by side: a heavy box stacked on a window box dents the plastic.

Questions

Are box protectors worth it?

Yes, for anything above a few pounds. They stop the crushed corners and scuffed windows that lead to complaints.

Can I send a figure in a padded envelope?

Only loose figures. Boxed figures need an outer box, or the window gets crushed.

Should I remove the price sticker from a box?

Only if it peels off cleanly. A torn label or residue does more harm than the sticker, so test a corner first or leave it and show it in the photos.

How do I photograph the window plastic without glare?

Angle your lights in from the sides rather than straight on, and tilt the box slightly. Two soft panels work better than a ring light here.

Is it worth selling loose figures?

Yes, if they’re complete. List every accessory and bag them together, because incomplete figures sell for far less.

How should I store figures I haven’t listed yet?

Upright on shelving in a cool, dry room, out of sunlight. Put loose figures in individual bags with their parts.
