Why this setup
You sell sealed snacks, candy and drinks bought from US importers and wholesale clubs as mixed boxes, ship 50 to 150 orders a week on TikTok Shop and eBay, and store everything in a spare room.
Before your first sale, check what your state and county ask of someone who stores and resells packaged food, and TikTok Shop treats food as a restricted category with its own approval step. Allow a month of setup before the first box goes out.
The room holds two shelving units with stock in date order, tubs for loose candy still in its sealed packs, a packing table, and a pair of LED panels so chip bags and soda cans show their colors in TikTok videos.
The kit
Every item, why it’s here and what it typically costs in the US.
MUNBYN thermal label printer
It takes the standard 4 × 6 inch labels that eBay, Poshmark, Mercari and Whatnot all generate, and generic labels work, so the running cost stays low.
Typical price$60 to $100
See on Amazon66 lb digital shipping scale
Covers the packages most home sellers ship, up to 66 lb. Choose it when the 110 lb scale is out of stock.
Typical price$20 to $35
See on Amazon5-tier steel shelving, 72 in×2
Floor space runs out first, so build up instead. Number the shelves and give each item an address you can pick from.
Typical price$80 to $180
See on AmazonClear stackable 32 qt bins, 4 pack×2
Mark each bin with a shelf code and record the code against the listing. When an item sells, the code in the listing tells you which bin to open.
Typical price$60 to $110

Packing on the bed or the kitchen table means setting up and clearing off every session. A table that stays up lets you leave your supplies where you need them.
Typical price$45 to $80

Once you ship more than a handful of boxes a week, a tape gun saves minutes on every session and stops tape ends sticking to themselves.

How to lay it out
Where everything goes, so each order moves one way through the room.
- 1
Shelving away from the heat
Put both units on the coolest wall, out of direct sun and away from heater vents. Chocolate goes on the lowest shelf where the room is coolest, and drinks go on the bottom of the other unit for weight.
- 2
Date order on every shelf
Put the oldest best by dates at the front and new deliveries behind. A marker pen date on the outer case means you check one number, not every packet.
- 3
Packing table by the door
Make up boxes in the morning, keep void fill in a bin under the table and print labels at the end.
- 4
Filming spot by the window
Leave the tripod and LED panels set up on a small clear patch of the table, so you can film a new box in five minutes.
The guide
Each step in the order you'll need it.
The month before the first sale
Contact your state and county about storing food for resale and note what they ask for. While you wait, open the TikTok Shop food application, set up the eBay listings as drafts and line up two US importers that send compliant labels.
If your state inspects home food businesses, show the inspector where stock lives, how you rotate dates and how you keep pets out of the room.
Buying stock that passes the label test
Each sealed product you sell needs an English label with the name, net weight, ingredients, a Nutrition Facts panel, the major allergens declared and a US distributor's name and address. Imported packs often carry a sticker over the original text.
Reject any case without the sticker, and keep the importer's invoice for every batch so you can trace a product if the FDA announces a recall.
Building a mixed box
Pick a theme per box, such as Japanese chips or British candy, and list the exact contents in the description. Buyers with allergies read every word, so name each product rather than writing "assorted".
Pack heavy cans at the bottom, chips on top and paper fill around them. If you pack the box upside down, the chips arrive crushed and you get a refund request.
Kit for this step
Dates, rotation and short-dated stock
Check every shelf on Monday. Move anything within six weeks of its best by date into a clearance box at a lower price, with the date in the title.
Platforms set their own rules on food near or past its date, so check eBay and TikTok Shop policies before you list short-dated stock. Toss anything past a use by date.
Shipping fast enough
Use USPS Ground Advantage or Priority Mail and ship early in the week, so boxes don't sit in a warm truck over a weekend. TikTok Shop sets its own handling times, so print and pack daily.
On eBay, buy labels through eBay or Pirate Ship and compare USPS with UPS Ground at the packed weight. Heavy drink boxes often come out cheaper by UPS.
Common mistakes
Each one costs you money or reviews, and each has a fix.
- Buying a pallet of imported candy before you know your state's rules and before TikTok Shop approves you.
- Writing "assorted snacks" instead of naming each product, which leaves buyers with allergies unable to check what they're getting.
- Storing chocolate on a top shelf near a sunny window and sending out bloomed bars.
- Losing track of dates and finding a shelf of stock past its best by date the week a big order comes in.
- Selling unlabeled candy from split multipacks as single items.
When to upgrade
At around 100 orders a week, buy a heavier-capacity scale so you can weigh drink multipacks and wholesale cases as they arrive. Past 120, a thermal label printer lets you print a day's labels in one batch.
- 100+ 110 lb shipping scale with fold-up display

Questions
Straight answers to what sellers ask about this.
Do I need a license to resell snacks from home?
It depends on your state. Some treat storing and shipping sealed, prepackaged food as low risk, and others want a food license or a registered space. Call your state department of agriculture or health before you buy stock, and read the FDA's guidance on food facility registration.
Can I sell food on TikTok Shop straight away?
No. Food and beverage is a restricted category on TikTok Shop, and approval can ask for business documents and product details. Check the current requirements in TikTok Shop Academy before you buy stock.
Can I split a multipack and sell the bars singly?
Not if the single bars lack the labeling required for individual sale, such as the ingredient list and allergen statement. Sell sealed packs as they came, or buy single-sale stock from your wholesaler.
Are imported candies legal to sell in the US?
Many are, but some contain color additives the FDA doesn't allow, and some states are adding their own additive bans. Buy from importers that supply FDA-compliant English labels, and check each line before listing.
How do I stop chocolate melting in transit?
Skip chocolate in summer heat waves or ship it by Priority Mail early in the week with a cold pack and an insulated liner. Pack it away from the box walls with paper fill, so it sits further from the heat of a hot truck.
Do I need a food handler card?
For sealed, prepackaged products most states don't require one, but a food handler or food manager course is cheap and shows an inspector you know the basics. TikTok Shop may ask for food safety documents during approval.
