The guide

Each step in the order you'll need it.

01

How Depop works for a home seller

You list from your phone with photos, a description and a size, and buyers find you through search, the feed and the shops they follow. The app handles payment, so you pack and ship once you get the sale notification.

Depop leans toward vintage, Y2K, streetwear and one-off pieces. Branded basics sell too. The shops that grow keep a consistent look and a clear niche, such as 90s sportswear or workwear jackets.

02

Fees and what you keep

US sellers pay no Depop selling fee. The cost on each sale is the payment processing fee, about 3.3% plus $0.45, charged on the item price and the shipping. Buyers pay a separate marketplace fee at checkout, so it doesn't come out of your payout.

Boosted Listings are the main optional cost. Work out your margin on a typical item after processing, the mailer and your time, then decide which pieces can carry a 12% boost.

03

Photos in the Depop style

Depop buyers expect clothes on a body or a mannequin, styled with the rest of an outfit. A flat lay works for accessories, but jackets and jeans sell better worn so the fit shows.

Set up one spot with daylight from the side and a plain backdrop, and shoot every item there. Add close-ups of the label, the fabric tag and any wear, so the buyer sees the condition before asking.

04

Shipping with Depop labels or your own

Depop shipping gives you a prepaid label the buyer pays for, and tracking marks the order shipped on its own. USPS picks up from your door for free if you schedule it online, so you don't need to queue at the post office.

If a package won't fit Depop's size options, or you'd rather use UPS for a heavy coat or boots, ship on your own and buy the label yourself. Weigh the item packed before you list it so the label matches.

05

Packaging buyers remember

A poly or kraft mailer is enough for most garments. Fold the piece around tissue so it arrives without creases, and add a small thank-you card with your shop name.

Depop buyers often share unboxings and review the presentation, so a sticker on the tissue and a neat fold, costing cents, feed straight into your star rating.

06

Keeping a vintage shop organized

One-off stock means every listing is a single item you have to find again. Hang listed pieces on a rack in listing order, or fold them into bins labeled by category and size.

Put the rack or bin code in a private note or a spreadsheet next to the listing title. The sale notification then sends you to one rack or bin.

Common mistakes

Each one costs you money or reviews, and each has a fix.

  • Shooting jackets flat on the floor hides the fit, so photograph them worn or on a mannequin.
  • Shipping on your own and forgetting to add tracking holds up the sale, so add the tracking number as soon as you ship.
  • Guessing the package size for a heavy hoodie risks a label that doesn't match the package, so weigh the item packed before you list it.
  • Pricing without the processing fee in mind eats into cheap items, so check what you keep on a $10 sale.
  • Letting sold stock sit for days drags down reviews, so ship within two days as Depop suggests.

Selling on Depop

Depop buyers scroll a feed of photos and follow shops with a clear style, so your listings work like a lookbook. US sellers pay no selling fee, only payment processing, which leaves more margin on a $20 vintage tee than most resale apps.

Most US sales go out on a prepaid Depop shipping label the buyer pays for at checkout, usually USPS. You print it, pack the order and drop it at the post office or schedule a free USPS pickup. For the room, you need a photo corner with good light, a rack or bins to pick from and a small stack of poly mailers.

Questions

Straight answers to what sellers ask about this.

Does Depop charge US sellers fees?

Depop dropped its 10% selling fee for US sellers in 2024. You still pay a payment processing fee of about 3.3% plus $0.45 on the item price and shipping. Buyers pay a marketplace fee at checkout. Depop's seller fees page has the current rates, so check it before you price.

How does Depop shipping work in the US?

Pick Depop shipping when you list, choose a package size, and the buyer pays for the label. Once the item sells, you get a prepaid label to print. Pack the order, attach the label and drop it with USPS, and tracking updates the order for you.

Can I ship my own way instead?

Yes. Choose to ship on your own and you set the price, buy the label yourself, for example on Pirate Ship, and add the tracking number in the app. Use a tracked service, because you can't edit the tracking once it's saved.

When does Depop pay me?

Depop pays out through Depop Payments once the sale clears, and the timing depends on how you ship and when the order is delivered. Depop's help pages give the current schedule. Allow a few more days for the money to reach your bank.

Are Boosted Listings worth paying for?

Boosting pushes a listing higher in search, and you only pay when a boosted item sells, at about 12% of the item price. Save it for stock with a healthy margin and leave $5 basics unboosted.

How fast should I ship a Depop order?

Depop says most sellers ship within two days, and buyers review quick shipping well. Keep packing supplies by your photo spot so a sold item can go in a mailer the same evening.

Can buyers bundle several items?

Yes, buyers can add several items from your shop to one bundle and you send them in a single package. Offer a bundle discount in your shop settings so buyers have a reason to add a second piece.
