How to sell on Vinted UK: first listing to sale: the kit, photographed as a studio still life

Before you start

A beginner's route through Vinted UK: fees, photos, your first listing, the 5 day posting deadline, getting paid and the HMRC reporting line.

Vinted UK charges sellers nothing to list or sell. The buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee and the postage at checkout, so the price you set is the money you get.

The steps below follow one item from your wardrobe to your bank account, based on Vinted's UK help centre rules as of 6 October 2026.

Clothing and trainer shows need a full-body or full-shoe shot from in front. A tripod gets the phone to eye height and the remote starts recording from across the room.

The guide

Each step in the order you'll need it.

01

Set up the account

Sign up in the app, add a profile photo and a short line about what you sell and how fast you post. Buyers check a new seller's profile before they pay.

Vinted asks you to activate your Vinted Balance before you can withdraw money, which includes identity checks. Do it before your first sale so the payout does not stall.

02

Photos that sell

Vinted takes up to 20 photos per listing. Use five to eight: the front, the back, the label, the size tag, close-ups of fabric and any flaw.

Shoot by a window in daylight on a plain wall or a rail. Vinted's catalogue rules ask for photos you took of the item itself, so no stock images and no heavy editing.

03

Write the listing

Fill in category, brand, size and condition from the menus: buyers filter on them, and a blank field hides you from those searches. Put brand, item and size in the title, such as "Levi's 501 jeans W32 L32 mid blue".

In the description, give measurements laid flat, the fabric and any mark or bobbling. An honest flaw in the listing costs less than a 'not as described' claim after delivery.

04

Price it from sold items

Search the same brand and size, and price from the items that have sold. Price a little under the cluster of sold prices for your first sales, while you have no reviews.

Set bundle discounts in your settings so a buyer adding a second item gets money off. A bundle lets a buyer add the cheap pieces that would sit unsold on their own.

05

After the sale: post within 5 working days

The buyer picks a carrier at checkout and pays the postage. Vinted sends you a prepaid label, or a code some carriers scan at drop-off with no printing.

You have 5 working days to send it. Miss that and Vinted cancels the order and refunds the buyer. If you need longer, ask the buyer: they can agree an extension.

06

Getting paid

After delivery the buyer has 2 days to confirm the item is fine or report a problem. If they do nothing, the order completes on its own.

The money then moves from pending to available in your Vinted Balance. Spend it on Vinted or withdraw it to your bank, which can take up to 5 working days to arrive.

07

Rules that trip up beginners

Vinted bans counterfeits, worn underwear and opened or used cosmetics and perfume. Selling one fake can get the account suspended.

Under the digital platform reporting rules, Vinted sends HMRC the details of sellers with 30 or more sales, or more than about £1,700, in a calendar year. Clearing your own wardrobe at a loss is not taxable income; our HMRC guide explains the line.

Questions

Is it free to sell on Vinted UK?

Yes for sellers. Vinted charges the buyer a Buyer Protection fee at checkout, and the buyer pays postage.

How long do I have to post a Vinted order?

5 working days. After that Vinted cancels the order and refunds the buyer unless the buyer agreed an extension.

When do I get paid on Vinted?

When the order completes: the buyer confirms, or 2 days pass after delivery with no issue reported. Then the money shows as available in your Balance.

How many photos can I add?

Up to 20. Five to eight clear shots, including the label and any flaw, are enough for most clothes.

Do I need a printer to sell on Vinted?

No. Some carriers take a code from your phone at drop-off. A printer helps once you post several parcels a week.

Can I sell on Vinted as a business?

Yes, through Vinted Pro, which has its own terms and a separate buyer fee. If you buy stock to resell, read our HMRC guide first.
