Before you start
When toys, back-to-school, Halloween and holiday stock sell, plus Whatnot show times, Poshmark sharing and eBay auction end times.
Timing advice mixes platform rules, calendar facts and things one seller noticed once. We keep them apart: rules come from the platforms' US help pages, and anything that is seller lore is marked as lore.
Test any timing tip on your own inventory for a month before you plan around it.
Kit for this
The products this guide uses, with typical US prices.
Gray poly mailers, 10 × 13 in, 100 pack
Self-seal poly mailers add almost no weight, so one garment usually ships at the lightest Ground Advantage tier. The film is opaque gray, so it hides the contents, and a 4 × 6 label sits flat on it.
Typical price$8 to $15
See on AmazonSmall corrugated boxes, 25 pack
Use these for boxed toys and beauty sets that a poly mailer would crush, when double-wall board costs more than you need.
Typical price$12 to $25
See on Amazon4 × 6 in thermal labels, 250 roll
Put a roll on a holder or inside a printer with a roll bay to save space on a crowded desk. Each label costs about 3 to 6 cents, a little more than fanfold.
Typical price$8 to $14
See on AmazonBrown packing tape, 1.88 in x 72 yd, 6 rolls
1.88 inches is the width tape guns take. Six rolls keep a shop shipping a few boxes a week going for a few months.
Typical price$10 to $18

The selling calendar
Many schools in the South and West start in early to mid August, and much of the Northeast after Labor Day, so list backpacks, kids' sneakers and school clothes from mid July. Pool floats, camping gear and festival outfits sell from spring into summer.
Halloween costumes and decorations sell through October. Our Whatnot capture showed 2,300 live viewers in the Halloween category on 5 October 2026 and 2,900 the next night. Holiday toy sales build from October, so our holiday toy rush setup starts then.
The holidays and shipping deadlines
USPS, UPS and FedEx publish holiday shipping deadlines each fall. Put them in your listings and stop promising delivery by Christmas after the Ground Advantage date for anything you send that way.
Stock up on boxes, mailers and labels in October, before Black Friday. Buy toy lots in September and October for December resale, and allow for returns in January from gift buyers.
Whatnot show times
Whatnot doesn't publish a best time to go live. Many US sellers schedule evening shows after work and school, which is seller lore based on when their viewers are free, and time zones spread that window across the country.
Our two captures hint at how much counts move: sports cards had 12,200 live viewers on a Monday evening and 18,600 late at night. Two snapshots can't show a pattern. Schedule shows at the same time each week so followers learn it, and compare your own viewer counts across slots.
Poshmark sharing and Posh Parties
Sharing a listing on Poshmark moves it back up the feed for your followers. Posh Parties are themed events that run several times a day, and a listing that fits the theme can be shared into it.
Many sellers share their closet in the evening, which is seller lore with no published data. Share items with likes first, since someone already wants them, and share winter coats from October, when buyers search for them.
eBay auction end times
eBay auctions run for 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 days, and a 1-day auction needs a feedback score of at least 10. An auction ends at the same time of day it started, and you can schedule a start up to three weeks ahead.
Ending on a Sunday evening is the best-known seller habit on eBay. eBay doesn't publish data to support it, so treat it as lore. Pick an end time when buyers across US time zones are awake, so avoid ending late at night Eastern.
Clear the shelves before the season turns
Halloween stock loses most of its buyers once October 31 passes. Cut the price on Halloween stock in the last week of October, and run a bundle or a lot show for whatever is left.
Plan the next season while this one sells. Store leftovers in labeled bins for next year instead of selling them at a loss.

Questions
Straight answers to what sellers ask about this.
When is the best day to end an eBay auction?
Sunday evening is the common seller habit. eBay publishes no data on it. Test two end times with similar items and compare.
How often should I share on Poshmark?
Poshmark sets no schedule. Share daily if you can, and lead with items that already have likes.
What time should I go live on Whatnot?
Whatnot doesn't say. Evenings are popular with US sellers. Pick a regular slot and compare your own viewer numbers over a few weeks.
When should I start selling holiday toys?
From October, as buyers start early and carrier deadlines fall in mid December. Our holiday toy rush setup covers the packing side.
Do Halloween costumes sell after October 31?
Far fewer do. Cut prices in the last week of October and store leftovers for next year.
Is January a good month to sell?
Seller lore says gift returns and new year clean-outs bring inventory and buyers. We have no data either way, so watch your own sales.
