Before you start
Is Whatnot legit? A review of how it works for sellers: approval, fees, payouts, and the setup for your first show.
Sellers say Whatnot is a legit live-selling app with active buyers and reliable payouts, though the pace is fast and fees vary by category.
You run real-time shows, Whatnot handles payments and shipping labels, and you keep the profit after the commission.
Kit for this
The products this guide uses, with typical US prices.
60-inch phone tripod with remote
Clothing and sneaker shows need a full-body or full-shoe shot from the front. A tripod gets the phone to eye level and the remote starts recording from across the room.
Typical price$15 to $35

Daylight in a spare room shifts through the day. Set the ring light once and your items look the same in the evening show as in your photos.
Typical price$45 to $75

It takes the standard 4 × 6 inch labels that eBay, Poshmark, Mercari and Whatnot all generate, and generic labels work, so the running cost stays low.
Typical price$60 to $100

How to sell on Whatnot: approval
You apply in the app, choose your main category and describe what you sell and where you source it. Whatnot checks sellers before they can go live.
Link your other selling profiles if you have them. A track record on eBay or Mercari helps an application.
Categories that work live
Sports cards and Pokémon lead, sold as breaks, singles and sealed product. Comics, vinyl figures, sneakers, vintage clothing and coins all have large audiences.
Pick one category for your first shows. Buyers follow sellers for a niche, so a mixed show is hard to market.
The kit for a first show
A phone on a tripod, a soft front light and a quiet room are enough to start. Put the camera at the height of the table so items show clearly.
Add a second light and a better mic once you run shows each week.
Running the first show
Plan 30 to 50 items, starting with a few $1 starts to bring people in. Schedule the show a few days ahead and share it so followers get a reminder.
Talk about each item: condition, why it is good, what comps sell for. Viewers leave when you go quiet, so keep talking.
Whatnot fees
Whatnot takes a commission on each sale plus a payment processing fee. Rates vary by category and change, so check the seller fees page in the help center before you price.
Payouts go to your bank after the order ships and the buyer receives it, on the schedule the app shows.
Shipping after the show
Whatnot generates labels for each buyer, combining everything they won into one package, and the buyer pays shipping. Print the batch and pack the same night or next morning.
A thermal printer with 4 × 6 in labels and a packing table let you pack a 40-order show in about an hour.
