Before you start
Getting a designer piece approved, pricing it in dollars with room for offers, and shipping it to Vestiaire's authentication team or the buyer.
Vestiaire Collective sells pre-owned designer bags, shoes, jewelry and clothing to buyers in the US and abroad. A moderation team reviews each listing, and mall and fast-fashion brands get turned away.
You compete with The RealReal and Poshmark here, so your edge is detail: sharp photos of every stamp and code, the original dust bag, and a fast reply to offers.

The products this guide uses, with typical US prices.
Two softbox lights with stands
Softboxes spread light over a big area, so a whole outfit or a rack of inventory gets even light with soft shadows. They take more floor space than panels and suit a spare room better than a desk.
Typical price$50 to $90

Matching white-background photos make your listings look like a store. The box folds flat when you need the desk back.
Typical price$18 to $45

Designer buyers expect a bag to arrive in a dust bag. The cotton protects the leather while it sits in the outer box.
Typical price$12 to $22

A sheet of tissue costs pennies and changes how a $20 vintage shirt feels on arrival.

Each step in the order you'll need it.
Getting the listing approved
Enter the brand, model, condition and price, and upload your photos. Moderators approve the listing or send it back with a request.
Most requests ask for a clearer serial number, an extra angle or a lower condition grade. Fix it the same day so the listing goes live while you still have buyers' attention.
Photos buyers trust
Use a plain light backdrop and shoot the front, back, base, interior, hardware, heat stamp and serial or date code. Show scuffs and repairs as clearly as the logo.
Two softboxes give the same light every session, and a small light tent handles rings and wallets.
Pricing in dollars
Compare sold listings for the same model and condition, on Vestiaire and other resale sites. The listing screen shows your payout as you type, so set the price from the dollar figure you want to keep.
Leave room for offers. US buyers expect to negotiate, and a quick counteroffer often closes the sale.
Storing designer pieces
Keep bags stuffed and upright in their dust bags, away from direct sun. Coats and dresses hang on a rail with space so they don't crease.
Store the box, authenticity cards and receipt with each piece in a labeled bag. Missing extras lower the price.

Shipping the sale
Vestiaire sends a prepaid shipping label and a deadline. The buyer's checkout choice decides whether it goes to the authentication team or ships direct.
Wrap the piece in tissue inside its dust bag and pack it in a sturdy box with filler. Take a photo of the sealed box with the label before drop-off.

Fees, payouts and taxes
Listing costs nothing. When it sells, Vestiaire takes a commission and a payment processing fee that vary by price, so read the Selling Fees article in the help center before pricing.
You're paid once the buyer accepts the item or it clears authentication. Marketplaces send a Form 1099-K to sellers over the IRS reporting threshold, so keep what you paid for each piece.

Questions
Straight answers to what sellers ask about this.
Which brands does Vestiaire accept?
Designer and premium brands. Fast fashion is refused, and the brand list in the app shows what's allowed. Sell mall brands on Poshmark or Mercari.
Where does the package go?
If the buyer chose authentication, to Vestiaire's team for inspection, then on to the buyer. With Direct Shipping, straight to the buyer.
What happens if my item fails the check?
The order is canceled and the item is returned under Vestiaire's rules. Describe every flaw up front so the inspection matches the listing.
How fast do I need to ship?
The app sets a deadline when it issues the label. Pack the same day the item sells so the order isn't canceled.
Should I accept offers?
Most sales here involve an offer. Check the payout figure first, since fees come off the agreed price, then accept or counter.
Will I get a 1099-K?
Only if your sales pass the IRS reporting threshold for the year. Selling your own used items at a loss usually isn't taxable income, but keep receipts to show it.
