Before you start
The real cost of Amazon return pallets, how to sort and test the stock, check recalls and price every item.
Amazon return pallets are loads of customer returns, overstock and shelf pulls sold by the pallet or the box. You get cheap stock or a pile of broken items you pay to haul away.
The CPSC and FTC set the rules on recalls and consumer protection. Warranty and sales tax rules vary by state, so ask your state's office or an attorney about your own case.

Mark each bin with a shelf code and record the code against the listing. When an item sells, the code in the listing tells you which bin to open.

Packing on the bed or the kitchen table means setting up and clearing off every session. A table that stays up lets you leave your supplies where you need them.
Typical price$45 to $80

Suits you if you keep hundreds of items in bins and lose time hunting for the one that sold. Scan a QR label on a bin with your phone to see what is inside, then update counts as you go.

Liquidation pallets: manifests and grades
Manifested pallets include a list of items and their retail prices; unmanifested ones come with no list. The retail value on a listing is the original store price. Used stock sells for far less.
Ask the liquidator for the condition grade, the source and the share of working items. If the seller will not answer, buy elsewhere.
Work out the real cost per item
Add the pallet price, sales tax, freight, your time and the cost of dumping unsellable stock. Divide by the items you expect to sell, which is fewer than the manifest lists.
A worked example: $400 for 80 items, plus $150 freight, is $550. If 50 sell, each one cost you $11 before shipping and fees. Our earnings math guide shows the platform fees.
You buy as a business
Liquidators sell pallets as is, and their terms usually rule out refunds for missing or broken items. Read the terms before you pay. Many states let you skip sales tax on stock bought for resale if you give the seller a resale certificate, so check your state's rules.
Pay by a method with some protection, and start with one small lot from a new liquidator before a full truckload.
You sell to consumers
Once you resell, eBay's Money Back Guarantee and similar platform policies let buyers return an item that does not match the listing, even if you say no returns. Some states also limit as is sales.
Describe every fault. A listing that says powers on, left speaker crackles protects you; untested on a returned item invites a claim.
Check recalls and test electronics
The CPSC says it is illegal to sell a recalled product. Search every model on cpsc.gov and saferproducts.gov before you list, and check children's items with extra care.
Test what you can: plugs, cables and chargers. Throw out or recycle anything with a swollen or damaged lithium battery instead of shipping it.
Sort, grade and store
Set up a folding table, three bins (sell, part out, dispose) and a shelf with coded locations before the pallet arrives. Grade each item once: new in box, open box, used, faulty.
Log each item with its shelf code in an inventory app or a spreadsheet. A pallet of 80 small items is unworkable without it.

Where each grade sells
New in box goods sell on eBay at fixed prices. Clothing and shoes move on Poshmark and Mercari, and toys and collectibles can run as a Whatnot show. Faulty electronics sell for parts on eBay, described as such.
Our wholesale page covers storage and packaging for the higher volumes a pallet brings.

Questions
Straight answers to what sellers ask about this.
Are liquidation pallets worth it?
Some are. Cost each one by the items you expect to sell, after freight and disposal. The profit depends on how many items you list.
Can I get a refund on a bad pallet?
Usually not: liquidators sell as is. Their terms decide what you can claim, so read them first.
Can I sell pallet stock as is?
As is means the buyer accepts the faults you describe. It does not let you skip platform return rules or hide defects.
Is it legal to resell recalled items?
No. The CPSC says selling a recalled product is illegal. Check cpsc.gov before you list.
What is a manifested pallet?
A pallet sold with a list of its contents and their original retail prices. Unmanifested pallets come with no list.
Do I pay tax on pallet profits?
Yes, buying to resell is business income. Platforms report sales above the IRS threshold on Form 1099-K, and you report profit either way.
