App-controlled desk panels for sellers who stream several nights a week and need the light to match from the first lot to the last.

About this ranking

Once you run shows three or four evenings a week, the cheap panels start to show their limits: stands that wobble, buttons you have to reach into frame to press, and colour that drifts between two lights. These picks fix that with clamp-mounted panels you adjust from a phone or computer.

Expect to pay about £130 to £160 for the large panel, £110 to £130 for the mid-sized one and £100 to £120 for the battery model. A pair of plain LED panels at £45 to £75 stays on the list as the budget route.

How we chose

The criteria that set the order. Commission plays no part.

  1. 01Adjustable mid-show without stepping into frame
  2. 02Clamps to the desk so nothing sits on the floor
  3. 03Soft enough to keep a hot spot off foil and slabs
  4. 04Matches colour when you run two or three at once

    Elgato Key Light

The main light for a desk you stream from most nights. The large panel covers you and a full card mat from one clamp, and you change brightness from the app between lots.

    • Main light on a busy card desk
    • Sellers who appear on camera
    • Weekly shows with a fixed setup

    Typical price

    £130to £160

    Elgato Key Light Air MK.2

    Elgato Key Light Air MK.2

The second light, or the main one on a narrow desk. Its smaller face fits beside a rip camera and matches the large panel’s colour from the same app.

    • Fill light opposite a large panel
    • Narrow desks
    • Lighting a wide clothing rail

    Typical price

    £110to £130

Two LED video panels with stands

Two LED video panels with stands

The budget alternative. Two panels on stands light a mat from both sides for well under half the cost of one pro panel; you lose app control and clamp mounting.

    • Weekly shows
    • First pro-style setup on a budget
    • Desks with no floor space for stands

    Typical price

    £45to £75

The guide

Each step in the order you'll need it.

01

Key, fill and close-up

Most pro desks use three lights. The large panel lights you and the whole mat, a mid-sized panel on the other side fills its shadow, and a small one lifts the close-up angle on a single card.

Start with the large panel and one other. Add the third when you add a second camera, since that angle needs its own light.

02

Control from the app

App control is the main reason to pay over plain panels. You can drop brightness when a buyer asks for a slab with no reflection, then bring it back, without leaving your seat.

The panels join your home Wi-Fi. Put the router close or use a mesh point in the room, because a panel that drops off the network mid-show stays at its last setting.

03

Desk clamps and cable runs

Clamped poles keep the floor clear for packing in a spare room. Check the desk edge is thick enough and free of a lip before you buy.

Run the power cables down the clamp poles and tie them to the desk leg. A cable across the walkway gets kicked during the post run.

04

Keep the budget pair

Two plain LED panels on stands still light a card mat well. If your shows are weekly and the stands stay put, they do the job at under half the price.

Questions

Is a pro panel worth it over a cheap LED pair?

Worth it when you stream most nights and adjust light during shows. For a weekly show with a fixed setup, the cheap pair is enough.

How many lights do I need for a Whatnot card show?

Two for one camera, one each side of the mat. Add a third small light when you add a close-up angle.

Do app-controlled lights need Wi-Fi?

The desk panels here use your home Wi-Fi for app control. Check your network reaches the room before buying.

What colour temperature should I use for cards?

Pick a neutral setting in the middle of the range and keep every light on it. Matching lights matter more than the exact number.

Can I use a battery light at a card fair?

Yes. A battery panel runs without a socket, which suits a fair table or a show from another room.

Will brighter lights stop glare on slabs?

No. Glare comes from the angle. Move lights to the sides and tilt the slab, then set brightness.
