# Baby and kids

> Secondhand baby clothes, toys and gear. Parents buy in bundles by size, so sort by size and check every item against product recalls.

Kids grow in bursts, so parents buy clothes by size and often as a bundle. A lot of ten onesies in 3 to 6 months sells faster than ten separate listings, and it costs you one label instead of ten.

Strollers, high chairs, bouncers and baby carriers fetch good money secondhand, but they are bulky to ship and some carry safety questions a buyer will ask. Ship the soft goods and offer local pickup on the big gear.

Keep a list of what you won't sell. Used car seats with an unknown history and used crib mattresses are the two that US safety groups tell parents to avoid buying secondhand.

## How to pack it

- Fold the clothes flat and seal them in a clear bag.
- Slide the bag into a poly mailer, or box toys and gear with void fill.
- Weigh it and buy the Ground Advantage label for that weight.

Avoid: Shipping bulky strollers and cribs in a mailer. Box them, or offer local pickup.

- **[Gray poly mailers, 10 × 13 in, 100 pack](https://sellersetups.com/us/product/grey-mailing-bags)** ($8 to $15): Self-seal poly mailers add almost no weight, so one garment usually ships at the lightest Ground Advantage tier. The film is opaque gray, so it hides the contents, and a 4 × 6 label sits flat on it.
- **[Zip-top bags, 4 × 6 in, 100 pack](https://sellersetups.com/us/product/resealable-cable-bags)** ($5 to $10): A coiled charger, a set of earrings or a bag of spare game pieces fits a 4 × 6 in zip-top bag, and you can write the SKU on the white block. Pick a larger size if you bag laptop power bricks or whole controllers.
- **[Double-wall boxes, 18 × 12 × 8 in, 15 pack](https://sellersetups.com/us/product/double-wall-boxes)** ($45 to $70): Double-wall cardboard resists crushing better than single-wall, so your boxed sneakers arrive intact.
- **[Honeycomb paper wrap roll](https://sellersetups.com/us/product/paper-void-fill)** ($20 to $35): Stretches into a cushioned mesh and goes in the paper recycling. Choose it if low-plastic packaging is part of your shop's pitch.
- **[4 × 6 in thermal labels, 500 fanfold](https://sellersetups.com/us/product/thermal-labels-fanfold)** ($8 to $16): Fanfold stacks feed flat behind the printer and hold more labels than a roll. 4 × 6 in matches the label size USPS, UPS and the marketplaces print.

## Shipping per order

- USPS Ground Advantage, under 1 lb: $6.93 to $8.95. Clothing, cards in a mailer and other small items under 1 lb. Tracked, with $100 insurance included.
- USPS Ground Advantage, 1 to 2 lb: $7.61 to $13.42. Shoes, jeans and boxed items up to 2 lb, tracked with $100 insurance.
- UPS Ground, up to 5 lb: $12.00 to $25.00. Tracked UPS Ground for boxed items up to 5 lb, for when it costs less than USPS.

## Sort by size before you list anything

Clothes come in labeled sizes: newborn, 0 to 3 months, 3 to 6 months and on up to kids' sizes. Sort into bins by size the moment stock comes in, then by season. You can then write each title straight from the bin: "Boys' bundle, 6 to 9 months, fall, 14 pieces".

Write the brand and size from the tag, not from memory. Sizes run differently between brands, so a buyer comparing two onesies wants the tag in the photo too.

## Wash, check and fold for a clean first impression

Wash everything, even items that look clean, with a fragrance-free detergent. Many parents of newborns avoid strong scents. Check each piece in daylight for milk and food stains, which often turn yellow in storage.

Fold bundles neatly and photograph them stacked, then fanned out, so the buyer can count the pieces. Note any marks in the description and photograph them close up. A buyer who finds a stain you didn't mention will open a return.

## Safety checks for toys and baby gear

Search the item name on CPSC.gov/Recalls before you list a branded toy, stroller, bouncer or high chair. Recalls on baby gear are common, and a parent who finds one after buying from you will rightly want a refund.

For toys meant for young kids, check for loose small parts, button batteries a child could reach, and cracked plastic. A toy with a loose battery cover is a hazard: tape won't fix it, so leave it out.

Keep car seats and used crib mattresses out of your stock unless you can stand behind their history. Strollers, play yards and high chairs need every strap, buckle and brake shown working in the photos or on camera.

## Selling bundles live on Whatnot

Baby bundles suit a live show. Hold each piece up, call out the size and brand, and drop it in a clear bag on camera. Buyers bidding on a bundle want to watch you count it.

Pre-bag your lots before the show with a numbered card in each, and keep a tidy table so pieces from one lot don't drift into the next. Run a few low starting bids early to fill the room, and save the name-brand coats and snowsuits for the middle of the show.

## Shipping soft goods and bulky gear

Clothes bundles go in a poly mailer, folded flat, with the clothes in a clear bag first in case the mailer gets wet. Weigh each bundle: a big winter lot can tip from under 1 lb into the next USPS Ground Advantage price.

Bulky gear needs a box, plenty of void fill and a carrier that takes larger packages. Compare USPS, UPS Ground and FedEx Ground on Pirate Ship or your platform's label tool, and check size and weight limits before you quote shipping.

Local pickup works well for strollers, cribs and play gyms. Put your town in the listing title and ask the buyer to check the item before paying in person.

## Pricing secondhand kids' items

Search sold listings, not active ones, for the same brand and size. Big-box basics sell cheaply, often by the bundle, and premium kids' brands hold their value far better.

Price gear against its new price and its age. Parents want to know the manufacture date on strollers and car seats, and the label on the frame usually shows it.

## Common mistakes

- Listing a car seat or crib mattress with an unknown history puts a child at risk, so leave both out of your stock.
- Selling a branded toy or stroller without checking CPSC recalls can land a parent with recalled gear, so search it first.
- Shipping clothes with a stain you didn't mention leads to returns and bad ratings, so check in daylight and photograph any mark.
- Mixing sizes in one bundle confuses buyers, so keep every bundle to a single size range.
- Quoting cheap shipping on a stroller box before you measure it means paying the difference yourself, so measure and weigh it before you list.

## Questions

### Can I sell a used car seat?

Some states restrict it, and safety groups advise parents against buying a used seat unless they know its full history, because crash damage can be invisible. Every seat also has an expiration date on its label. The simplest route is to leave car seats out of your stock.

### Should I sell a used crib mattress?

Safe-sleep advice is a firm, flat mattress that fits the crib with no gaps, and many parents want a new one for each baby. Used mattresses sell poorly, so sell the crib frame and leave the mattress out. Check the crib against CPSC recalls too, since drop-side cribs can no longer be resold.

### Do safety rules apply to secondhand toys?

Yes. Federal law bans selling recalled products, including used ones. Search the item on CPSC.gov/Recalls before you list a branded toy, and check small parts on anything meant for kids under three.

### Do clothes bundles sell better than single items?

For everyday baby clothes, yes. Group by size and season, so a parent can outfit one stage in one order. Keep single listings for name brands, coats, snowsuits and anything new with tags.

### Which platform suits baby clothes?

Poshmark and Mercari both have big kids' sections, and buyers there pay shipping through a prepaid label. eBay suits bundles and branded gear. Whatnot runs live shows for kids' clothing, which works well for bundles you can hold up and count on camera.

### How do I ship a stroller?

Fold it, take the wheels off if they come off, and box it in a large double-wall carton. A box that size usually costs more by UPS or FedEx Ground than most buyers want to pay, so local pickup through Facebook Marketplace is often the better sale.

### What should I check on kids' clothes before listing?

Look for stains under bright light, check snaps and zippers, and pull hood strings. CPSC treats drawstrings at the hood or neck of kids' upper outerwear as a hazard, so remove them or leave that item out.
