A folding corrugated mailer holds one to three 12-inch records flat, so corners and jacket seams survive the sorting belts. Buy them if you sell vinyl every week; for a box set or a stack of records, use a box with bubble wrap.

## Setups

- [eBay books, games and vinyl setup](https://sellersetups.com/us/setups/ebay-books-media): Two scales, rigid mailers and shelves sorted by code, so 20 to 80 books, games and records a week go out at the cheapest rate that fits.

## Who LP mailers suit

LP mailers suit you if you ship 12-inch records every week on eBay, Mercari or Depop. A record buyer judges the jacket as much as the disc, and a folding mailer keeps both flat and square.

A 10 pack covers clearing out a collection or selling a few records a week. Regular dealers buy 25 or 50 to bring the cost per mailer down.

## Sizing a mailer for a 12-inch jacket

A 12-inch mailer needs an inside space a little over 12.375 inches square, the size of a standard LP jacket. Many are about 12.5 × 12.5 inches with adjustable depth scores for one to three records or a gatefold.

Corrugated board with folding flaps wraps the record on all four sides, and a peel-and-seal strip saves tape. Some packs include filler pads, which add bend protection.

Records ship well by USPS Media Mail, which covers sound recordings at a lower price than Ground Advantage but runs slower. Check the current Media Mail rules on usps.com before you use it.

## Packing a record

Take the disc out of the jacket and put it in its inner sleeve behind the jacket, or in a plastic outer sleeve. Seam splits start when the disc shifts inside the jacket in transit.

Add a filler pad on each side of the record, lay it in the mailer and fold the flaps in order. Press the strip down firmly and write "Do not bend" on the front if the mailer has no printed warning.

Put the 4 × 6 label on the front panel, away from the fold lines, and weigh the package. Store flat mailers upright in a slot beside your record shelves.

## Box sets, 45s and CDs

For box sets or a bundle of records, a small corrugated box with bubble wrap around the records protects better than squeezing them into an LP mailer.

For 7-inch singles, use a smaller 7-inch mailer, or a board-backed card mailer for one light single. CDs and cassettes ship well in a padded envelope.

## Cost per record

At $25 to $40 for 10, each mailer costs about $2.50 to $4. On a $20 record that is a real share of the price, so build it into your shipping charge.

Rigid mailers protect better than a padded envelope, and record buyers leave feedback on how a record arrived. A dinged corner or split seam can turn a sale into a return.

## Common mistakes

- Move the disc behind the jacket before shipping. Left inside, it splits the seams in transit.
- A padded envelope lets an LP corner bend; use a rigid mailer.
- A basic mailer without pads flexes, so add a board on each side.
- Three records squeezed into a mailer rated for one bow the sides. Bundles go in a box.
- Media Mail has content rules; a record with a T-shirt bundled in no longer qualifies, so ship mixed orders Ground Advantage.

## Questions

### Should the record stay in the jacket?

Take the disc out and place it behind the jacket in its inner sleeve. That protects the seams.

### How many records fit in one mailer?

Most hold one to three. The listing gives the depth and score options.

### Can I send an LP by Media Mail?

Sound recordings qualify for Media Mail. Check the current USPS rules, since non-media items in the package disqualify it.

### Do I need filler pads?

Yes, if the mailer has no built-in pads. A board on each side stops the record bending.

### Are LP mailers worth it over a box?

For single records, yes. A box suits sets and bundles.
