# Vestiaire Collective

> A resale marketplace for designer fashion, bags and jewelry, where buyers can pay to have your item checked by experts before it ships to them.

Vestiaire Collective sells pre-owned designer pieces to buyers across the US, Europe and beyond. A moderation team reviews each listing before it goes live, and fast-fashion brands are refused, so a $40 mall jacket belongs on Poshmark or Mercari instead.

Most sales are bags, shoes, jewelry and labeled clothing worth $100 or more. You need clean, detailed photos of every logo, stamp and serial number, dust bags and boxes kept with the item, and a sturdy box for each sale.

## How selling on Vestiaire works

You list the item with photos, condition and a price, and the moderation team approves it or asks for changes. Buyers can send offers, and you accept, counter or decline.

After a sale you get a prepaid label and a deadline. The buyer’s choice decides whether the box goes to an authentication center or straight to them.

## Photos that pass moderation

Shoot on a plain background in soft, even light: front, back, base, inside, hardware, and close-ups of the logo, heat stamp and serial or date code. Moderators and buyers check these first.

A softbox kit gives the same light every time, and a light tent suits jewelry and small leather goods.

## Storing designer stock

Keep bags stuffed and in their dust bags, upright on a shelf away from sunlight. Hang coats and dresses on a rack with space between them so nothing creases before the photos.

Keep the box, receipt, cards and spare parts with the item. Missing accessories lower the price and can fail the check.

## Packing for the check

Wrap the item in tissue inside its dust bag, then pack it in a double-wall box with fill so it can’t shift. A bag in a poly mailer arrives crushed.

Weigh the box before drop-off, and photograph it packed with the label showing, in case of a dispute.

## Pricing against the market

Search sold and live listings for the same model and condition before you price. Vestiaire shows the commission when you list, so work back from the payout you want.

Leave room for offers. Vestiaire buyers expect to negotiate, and a fast counter keeps them interested.

## When the side hustle becomes a business

Once you source pieces to resell, you run a business. Look at Vestiaire’s professional seller status, which has its own rules on returns and invoices, and check your state’s sales tax registration.

Track what you paid for each piece and what it sold for, so your return matches any 1099-K.

## Common mistakes

- Listing a mall brand wastes a moderation round: Vestiaire refuses fast fashion. Sell those pieces elsewhere.
- Skipping a close-up of the serial or date code slows approval and puts buyers off.
- Hiding a scuff or a repair leads to a failed check and a canceled sale. Photograph every flaw.
- Shipping a bag in a poly mailer gets it crushed. Use a box with fill.
- Missing the ship-by deadline cancels the sale, so pack the day it sells.

## Questions

### How much does Vestiaire Collective take from a sale?

Listing is free. When the item sells, Vestiaire deducts a commission based on the price, plus a payment processing fee. Rates vary by price band, so check the Selling Fees page in Vestiaire’s help center before you set your price.

### How does authentication work?

At checkout the buyer picks either an expert check by Vestiaire or Direct Shipping. With authentication, you ship to a Vestiaire center, which inspects the item and forwards it. With Direct Shipping, it goes straight to the buyer.

### How do I ship a sold item?

Vestiaire gives you a prepaid label and a deadline to ship. Pack the item in a box with the dust bag, any certificate and the accessories you listed, and keep the drop-off receipt.

### When do I get paid?

The payout follows once the buyer has the item and the sale is confirmed, or once it passes authentication. You add a bank account for payouts in your settings.

### What happens if the item fails the check?

If the experts find the item doesn’t match the listing or isn’t authentic, the sale is canceled and the item is handled under Vestiaire’s rules. Describe every mark and flaw so the check matches what the buyer saw.

### Will I get a 1099-K?

Marketplaces send a 1099-K to US sellers above the IRS reporting threshold for the year. Personal items sold at a loss aren’t taxable income, but keep your purchase records, and report profit from buying to resell.
