# Kids' clothes bundles and baby items not to resell

> How to build kids' clothes bundles that sell, and the baby items US safety agencies warn about: used car seats, crib bumpers, inclined sleepers and more.

Updated October 10, 2026

Outgrown kids' clothes are some of the easiest things to resell: they are barely worn, sized by age, and parents buy them in lots. A few baby items carry risk instead, and some are banned from sale outright.

Safety points come from the CPSC, NHTSA and the AAP's healthychildren.org, checked 7 October 2026. Treat it as general guidance; it is no legal ruling on any item.

## Build lots by size and season

Group by one size and one season: "Girls 2T, 12 summer pieces". A parent shopping for next summer searches by size, and mixed sizes put them off.

Lay the lot flat for one overview photo, then add close-ups of the tags and any stain. Count the pieces in the title so buyers can work out the price per item.

## Price and ship a lot

Lots of plain basics go cheap per item; name brands, coats and dresses hold more. Pull the best two or three pieces out to list alone if they would sell on their own.

Weigh the lot in its mailer before you list it. Twelve summer pieces often ship in one poly mailer by USPS Ground Advantage, but winter coats push it into a heavier weight band.

## Car seats: sell new or not at all

NHTSA advises against using a car seat with an unknown history, one that has been in a crash, or one past the expiration date printed on it. A crash or a drop can damage it in ways you cannot see.

As a seller you cannot prove that history to a stranger. Recycle an old seat through a retailer trade-in event or a local program instead of listing it.

## Crib bumpers, inclined sleepers and mattresses

The Safe Sleep for Babies Act bans the sale of padded crib bumpers and inclined sleepers for infants, used ones included. Leave them out of every lot.

Cribs sold in the US must meet the CPSC crib standard, and drop-side cribs made before it do not. The AAP advises a firm, flat, well-fitting mattress, which is hard to show in photos, so sell the crib and leave the mattress out.

## Sleepwear and hood drawstrings

Children's sleepwear has federal flammability rules, and the CPSC's resale guide covers them. Sell pajamas with their original tags and labels intact, and check the fabric for wear.

The CPSC treats drawstrings at the hood or neck of children's upper outerwear in sizes 2T to 12 as a hazard. Pull the cord out of any old hoodie before you sell it, and say so in the listing.

## Check recalls before you list

Search the product name on CPSC.gov recalls before you list a stroller, carrier, high chair or toy. Selling a recalled product is against federal law, so send it back through the recall instead.

Photograph the model number label and include the manual when you have it. Buyers check recalls too, and the label saves a round of questions.

## Items with no clear rule

We found no federal resale rule on used breast pumps, bottle nipples or pacifiers. Most buyers want these new for hygiene, so they sell poorly used.

If you buy kids' clothes in bulk to resell, you are running a business: income tax and the CPSC's rules for resellers apply to you. Read the CPSC's resale guide before you scale up.

## Kit for this

- **[Gray poly mailers, 10 × 13 in, 100 pack](https://sellersetups.com/us/product/grey-mailing-bags)** ($8 to $15): Self-seal poly mailers add almost no weight, so one garment usually ships at the lightest Ground Advantage tier. The film is opaque gray, so it hides the contents, and a 4 × 6 label sits flat on it.
- **[Clear stackable 32 qt bins, 4 pack](https://sellersetups.com/us/product/clear-storage-tubs)** ($30 to $55): Mark each bin with a shelf code and record the code against the listing. When an item sells, the code in the listing tells you which bin to open.
- **[66 lb digital shipping scale](https://sellersetups.com/us/product/parcel-scale-30kg)** ($20 to $35): Covers the packages most home sellers ship, up to 66 lb. Choose it when the 110 lb scale is out of stock.

## Setups

- [Preloved toy bundle setup for Vinted and eBay](https://sellersetups.com/us/setups/vinted-preloved-toy-bundles): Bag the small parts, photograph the whole bundle in a light tent and post sorted LEGO, Playmobil and family toys.
