Preloved toys sell on completeness. A buyer paying for a Playmobil farm wants the pig, the fence posts and the little bucket, so most of your time goes on sorting, counting and bagging pieces before anything gets photographed.

Played-with toys need less protection than sealed collector boxes, so the kit stays cheap. Grab bags hold the parts, the light tent fits the full bundle in one clear photo, and a box with a layer of wrap covers most parcels.

## The kit

- **[150 cm phone tripod with remote](https://sellersetups.com/product/phone-tripod)** (£18 to £30): Clothing and trainer shows need a full-body or full-shoe shot from in front. A tripod gets the phone to eye height and the remote starts recording from across the room.
- **[40 cm photo light box](https://sellersetups.com/product/light-tent)** (£25 to £40): Consistent white-background photos make your listings look like a shop. The box folds flat when you need the desk back.
- ×2 **[Grip seal bags, 100 × 150 mm, 100 pack](https://sellersetups.com/product/resealable-cable-bags)** (£4 to £8): A coiled charger, a set of earrings or a bag of spare game pieces fits a 100 × 150 mm grip seal bag, and you can write the stock code on the white panel. Pick a larger size if you bag laptop power bricks or whole controllers.
- **[Clear stackable 32 L tubs, 4 pack](https://sellersetups.com/product/clear-storage-tubs)** (£30 to £45): Label each tub with a shelf code and record the code against the listing. A sale then tells you which tub to open.
- **[Grey mailing bags, 10 x 14 in, 100 pack](https://sellersetups.com/product/grey-mailing-bags)** (£8 to £13): Self-seal poly bags add almost no weight, so a single garment posts as a small parcel. You can't see through the opaque grey film, and a label lies flat on it.
- **[Small single-wall boxes, 25 pack](https://sellersetups.com/product/single-wall-boxes)** (£8 to £14): Use these for boxed toys and beauty sets that a padded bag would crush, when double-wall board costs more than you need.
- **[Bubble wrap, 500 mm x 100 m](https://sellersetups.com/product/bubble-wrap-roll)** (£10 to £15): A long roll costs several times less per metre than the small packs sold in shops.
- **[Brown packing tape, 48 mm x 66 m, 6 rolls](https://sellersetups.com/product/brown-packing-tape)** (£5 to £9): 48 mm is the width tape guns take. Six rolls last a shop sending a few boxes a week for a few months.
- **[30 kg digital postal scale](https://sellersetups.com/product/parcel-scale-30kg)** (£12 to £20): Covers the parcels most home sellers ship, up to 30 kg. Choose it when the 40 kg scale is out of stock.
- **[Phomemo thermal label printer](https://sellersetups.com/product/phomemo-thermal-printer)** (£70 to £110): Costs less than most thermal printers and fits on a shelf. It prints the same 100 x 150 mm labels, so your label stock carries over if you upgrade later.
- **[100 x 150 mm thermal labels, 250 roll](https://sellersetups.com/product/thermal-labels-roll)** (£8 to £13): Put a roll on a holder or inside a printer with a roll bay to save space on a crowded desk. Each label costs about 3p to 5p, a little more than fanfold.

## How to lay it out

### Sorting tub on the floor

Tip each new haul into one clear tub on the floor and sort from there. Wash, dry and group each toy by brand or set before it goes on the desk.

### Light tent on the desk

Keep the tent open on one end of the desk with the phone on its tripod pointing in. Lay each bundle out flat inside it so one photo shows every piece.

### Bagging corner beside the tent

Put grab bags, a marker pen and the scale next to the tent. Count pieces into a bag, write the set name and count on it, and list the bundle.

### Post shelf by the door

Keep flat boxes, grey bags, wrap, tape and the label printer on one shelf near the door. Box sold bundles there and leave them on the shelf for the drop-off.

## Sourcing and sorting a haul

Car boots, school fairs and local selling groups turn up boxes of mixed toys for a few pounds. Buy the lots where you can see named sets or bricks from one theme in the box.

At home, sort by brand first, then by set or colour. Put broken pieces and anything unsafe in the bin bag as you sort, so they stay out of your listings.

## Washing and drying

Soak hard plastic bricks and figures in warm soapy water inside a mesh laundry bag, rinse and spread them on towels. Dry them fully before bagging: damp parts in a sealed bag smell musty by the time they arrive.

Skip water for anything with stickers, batteries or fabric. A damp cloth and a soft toothbrush clean those.

## Counting into grab bags

Check sets against their published inventory list and count the pieces into one grab bag per set. Small parts such as Playmobil hats and LEGO minifigure accessories go in a smaller bag inside the main one.

Write the set name, piece count and any missing parts on the bag with a marker. Copy that note into the first line of the listing.

## Photographing a bundle

Spread the whole bundle flat in the light tent and shoot straight down from the tripod so every piece shows. Add close-ups of minifigures, printed parts and any wear.

Put the box or instruction booklet in the main photo if you have it. A laid-out set with its box behind it earns more clicks than a heap.

## Packing and posting

Bagged bricks and soft toys go in a grey mailing bag. Built models, boxed sets and anything with thin plastic go in a box with a layer of bubble wrap and the bags packed tight around them.

Weigh and measure every parcel before you buy the label, since toy bundles get heavy. Vinted gives you its own label options; on eBay, compare Royal Mail, DPD and Evri for the size you have.

## Keeping stock under control

Give each listed bundle a number and write it on the bag and in the listing notes. Store bags upright in clear tubs in number order so a sale takes seconds to find.

Relist or reprice bundles that sit for a month. Split a large mixed lot that won’t sell into two themed bundles.

## Common mistakes

- Listing a set as complete without checking the inventory list brings a return when the buyer counts, so count every set before you photograph it.
- Bagging bricks while they are still damp leaves a musty smell in the parcel, so dry everything overnight after washing.
- Posting a built model in a soft mailing bag snaps the thin parts, so box anything assembled or moulded.
- Selling a toy with a loose button battery or a broken sharp edge puts a child at risk, so bin it rather than list it.
- Photographing a bundle as a jumbled heap hides what is in it and slows the sale, so lay the pieces out flat in the tent.

## When to upgrade

At 20 orders a week, a steel shelving unit gives each listed bundle a numbered spot. At 30, a folding table becomes the packing bench so the desk stays for photos. At 40, crosslisting software puts one bundle on Vinted and eBay at once and removes it from both when it sells.

- 20+ orders a week: **[5-tier steel shelving, 180 cm](https://sellersetups.com/product/shelving-unit)** (£40 to £70): Floor space runs out before height does. Number the shelves and each item gets an address you can pick from.
- 30+ orders a week: **[180 cm folding table](https://sellersetups.com/product/folding-work-table)** (£40 to £65): Packing on the bed or the kitchen table means setting up and clearing down every session. A table that stays up lets you leave your supplies where you need them.
- 40+ orders a week: **[Vendoo](https://sellersetups.com/product/vendoo-crosslisting)**: Suits you if you list the same stock on eBay, Vinted and Depop and want to stop retyping it. Its sale detection can delist an item from the other sites once it sells on one.

## Questions

### How should I clean secondhand toys before selling them?

Wash hard plastic pieces in warm soapy water in a mesh laundry bag, then leave them on a towel overnight. Wipe anything with electronics or stickers by hand. Buyers often ask, so say in the listing that you have cleaned them.

### Should I sell LEGO by weight or by set?

Complete sets with instructions earn more than loose bricks, so check a set against its inventory first. Mixed bricks with no set to match sell well as weighed bundles; put the weight in the title.

### How do I prove a Playmobil or LEGO set is complete?

Lay every piece out in the light tent next to the box or instructions and take one photo from above. Write the piece count on the bag and in the listing, and list anything missing by name.

### Can I post a toy bundle in a mailing bag?

Soft toys, bagged bricks and flat items travel well in a grey mailing bag. Anything with a box, a moulded building or thin plastic parts goes in a cardboard box with wrap so it doesn’t crack.

### Are there rules on selling used toys in the UK?

The law requires secondhand toys to be safe. Leave out anything broken, with sharp edges or with loose button batteries, and keep small-part warnings visible. Read the GOV.UK guidance on toy safety and Vinted’s and eBay’s own rules on toys.

### Vinted or eBay for preloved toys?

Vinted suits family bundles where buyers pay a buyer fee and you pay no seller fee. eBay reaches collectors searching for a named retired set. List the same bundle on both and remove it from the other when it sells.

### How do I price a mixed toy bundle?

Search sold listings on eBay for similar bundles and note the spread, then price near the middle. Bundles with a named theme, such as a LEGO City vehicle lot, sell faster than an unsorted bag.
