# How to package clothes for Vinted

> Fold, wrap and bag a Vinted clothing sale so it arrives clean and uncreased, using a mailing bag sized to the garment rather than a reused box.

Updated 6 October 2026

Most Vinted clothing sales go in a plastic or paper mailing bag. The bag costs pennies. Fold the garment along its natural lines and pick a bag that fits it with no spare air.

Read this if you post tops, jeans, dresses and knitwear from home and want fewer “arrived creased” messages. Shoes, bags and fragile items need a box; the last section covers when to switch.

## Check the item before it goes in

Shake the garment out, empty the pockets and look at it under daylight once more. A mark you missed in the photos is easier to mention to the buyer now than to explain in a dispute.

Remove loose threads and any tags you added for storage. If it smells of the wardrobe, air it for a day before packing.

## Fold to fit the bag

Fold the item into a flat rectangle a little smaller than the bag. Tuck sleeves behind the body and fold trousers in half lengthways first, then into thirds.

Roll knitwear and jersey instead of folding. A roll creases less and squashes into a smaller bag.

## Wrap in tissue or a clear bag

Wrap the folded garment in one sheet of tissue so it stays clean if the outer bag splits. A clear polybag works too for denim or outerwear.

Close the tissue with one small sticker. A thank-you note on top costs a few pence.

## Pick the mailing bag

Grey plastic mailing bags are light and waterproof, which suits most clothing. Paper mailers are kerbside recyclable in many areas but weaker in rain, so double the seal on wet days.

Keep two or three bag sizes. Use the smallest one that fits: a T-shirt in a coat-sized bag slides around and arrives creased.

## Seal, weigh and match the parcel size

Peel and seal the bag, then run a strip of tape across the flap if the item is heavy. Weigh the finished parcel on a parcel scale.

Compare the weight and size against the parcel size you chose when listing in the Vinted app. Vinted's help centre says the size and carrier cannot change once the buyer has paid, so set it carefully when you list.

## When clothes need a box

Structured items crush in a bag: a felt hat, a leather jacket with shaped shoulders, a beaded dress. Use a box with paper padding for those.

Shoes go in a box too, ideally their own box inside a plain outer one.

## Kit for this

- **[Grey mailing bags, 10 x 14 in, 100 pack](https://sellersetups.com/product/grey-mailing-bags)** (£8 to £13): Self-seal poly bags add almost no weight, so a single garment posts as a small parcel. You can't see through the opaque grey film, and a label lies flat on it.
- **[Recyclable paper mailing bags, 100 pack](https://sellersetups.com/product/paper-mailing-bags)** (£18 to £28): Costs about twice as much per bag as grey poly, and buyers notice the paper. It suits vintage and handmade shops that sell on character.
- **[Acid-free tissue paper, 100 sheets](https://sellersetups.com/product/tissue-paper)** (£7 to £11): A sheet of tissue costs pennies and changes how a £15 vintage shirt feels on arrival. Buyers mention it in reviews.
- **[Thank-you stickers, roll of 500](https://sellersetups.com/product/thank-you-stickers)** (£5 to £9): A sticker sealing the tissue makes the parcel look finished before the buyer opens it. Swap to custom stickers with your shop name once the brand settles.
- **[30 kg digital postal scale](https://sellersetups.com/product/parcel-scale-30kg)** (£12 to £20): Covers the parcels most home sellers ship, up to 30 kg. Choose it when the 40 kg scale is out of stock.
- **[Brown packing tape, 48 mm x 66 m, 6 rolls](https://sellersetups.com/product/brown-packing-tape)** (£5 to £9): 48 mm is the width tape guns take. Six rolls last a shop sending a few boxes a week for a few months.

## Setups

- [Spare-bedroom setup for a Vinted clothing seller](https://sellersetups.com/setups/vinted-vintage-spare-room): Rails, a packing table and a photo corner that let one person list, store and post 40 to 80 vintage garments a week.

## Questions

### Can I reuse supermarket bags to post Vinted clothes?

Only if they are clean, sturdy and fully sealed. A branded carrier bag tears easily, so use a proper mailing bag.

### Do I need tissue paper?

No, but it protects light fabrics from marks and keeps the garment clean if the bag splits.

### Plastic or paper mailing bags for Vinted?

Plastic resists rain and weighs less. Paper suits buyers who prefer recyclable packaging. Both work for folded clothes.

### How do I stop clothes creasing in the post?

Roll knits, fold woven items around a sheet of tissue and use a bag that fits snugly.

### How do I package a dress for Vinted?

Fold the skirt up over the bodice, tuck the straps in and wrap it in tissue. Beaded or structured dresses travel better in a box.

### Should I put a note in the parcel?

A short handwritten thanks takes a minute. Leave your address and phone number off it.
